Golden Record’s was spun off from a project we did for The Henry Ford, the largest museum in Michigan. They realized that to build strong relationships with their patrons, they needed to understand them as individuals. But to do that, they first needed to figure out how to connect patron data stored in different systems, throughout the institution.
We worked with The Henry Ford to build a centralized data hub that does just that: tie data together, make it available for analysis, and send it back to the systems that need it. What we learned from the project became the basis for the software behind Golden Record.
“Let’s say someone bought a ticket and gave you one email address. But when they became a donor, they gave you a different email address. They might have used a different phone number too. We have so many touch points like this, big and small. We wanted to aggregate all those touch points to create a single record view of each of our guests.
We collected data from everything—from SQL and non-SQL databases to Excel spreadsheets. The data is cleansed and matched in the hub to create this “golden record” of each guest. That data then flows into the CRM where we can use it to maximize our engagement. Now, when we have a conversation with someone, we know how they have interacted with us across the organization and can see all of the touch points.
Since implementing the hub, we’ve grown our membership from 42,000 to 52,000. Our donations have grown as well. Most of the emails we send get opened. We have a very engaged community who have “opted in” and are really involved with the institution.”
